Job Description:
SUMMARY OF POSITION
 
The Senior Director of Clinical Operations leads the delivery of clinical care operations across the Apollo MedFlight service area. The primary objective is to ensure that standards, protocols, leadership, and direction are all in place so that Apollo MedFlight is providing the highest quality of care possible to its patients. Implement operating efficiencies aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and increasing the number of patients cared for as measured through quality assurance. Assess and upgrade existing medical care standards; provide management, leadership, and coaching to assure the overall goals, timelines, budgets, and quality expectations are exceeded. Collaboration with operating and executive team members to assure strategic goals are being met by the clinical department.
 
The Senior Director of Clinical Operations will report to the SVP of Field Operations and work closely with the Chief Medical Officer. He/she will also partner with other senior leadership to develop and implement strategies across the organization, including policies and plans to meet Apollo MedFlight’s short- and long-term objectives. The Senior Director of Clinical Operations must adapt to a continually evolving environment, be operations-savvy, and thrive in an autonomous environment.

III. Provision of Services/Care Standards
• The Senior Director of Clinical Operations will lead the clinical care department for Apollo with a primary focus on the delivery of high-quality critical care transport medicine.
• Provide an environment conductive to safety for patients, families, employees, and other healthcare professionals.
 
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to work with critical care transport clinicians.
• Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, support staff, and others.

PRIMARY POSITION DUTIES:
• Provides direct leadership and supervision to the Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance Manager, Clinical Education Manager, Transplant Transport Coordinator, Designated Infection Control & Clinical Logistics Manager, and the Regional Clinical Managers.
• Responsible for the oversight of the clinical care operations for Apollo MedFlight.
• Responsible for the oversight of the quality management of Apollo MedFlight.
• Responsible for the oversight and collaboration of the medical direction board.
• Responsible for managing the financial oversight and budgeting of clinical care operations.
• Responsible for managing the clinical care operations in accordance with overall company goals, timelines, budget, and quality expectations.
• Responsible to the creation and maintenance of policy and procedures for the clinical care department.
• Responsible for ensuring the clinical care department is in compliance with Apollo MedFlight company policy, CAMTS standards, DEA regulations, and state department of EMS and health regulations.
• Responsible for the development and implementation of clinical standards and best practices to ensure the delivery of effective, safe, and quality clinical care.
• Collaborates with the COO and other service line leaders to ensure the alignment of resources to ensure maximum operational readiness.
• Provides leadership to clinical teams to ensure alignment with Apollo’s vision, core values, and company goals.
• Provides clinical care division updates, metrics, budget, accomplishments, and risks to the senior leadership team and other relevant stakeholders.
• Participates in quality management initiatives and program advancement projects.
• Participates in the development and maintenance of clinical care guidelines and procedures.
• Lead and support cross-functionality with clinical education and field training programs.
• Approves clinical employee evaluations, disciplinary conferences, and anecdotal notes in coordination with Human Resources and other applicable leaders.
• Serves as a clinical resource and role model for clinical staff by demonstrating advanced clinical skills and expertise.
• Collaborates Patient Financial Services and the clinical care team in meeting the needs of PFS charting issues in a timely manner.
• In collaboration with the Apollo MedFlight leadership team, assists with strategic planning and program development, implements changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the clinical department utilizing appropriate strategies.
• Functions as a resource for dissemination of new clinical information and problem resolution.
• Consistently demonstrates professional behavior and performs proactive interventions which support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Apollo MedFlight.
• Facilitates the selection and hiring of new clinicians and termination of clinicians as needed.
• Demonstrates standards of performance (Accountability, Reliability, and Quality) that support customer satisfaction and principles of service and operational excellence
• Promotes the appropriate use of clinical transport resources to achieve the best health outcomes and ensures that clinical transport resources are safe, effective, timely, equitable, efficient, and people centered. Promotes clinical care efficiency and effectiveness, team effort, and unity when working with the communications, other service lines of Apollo MedFlight, and external organizations and systems.
• Cultivates the ability of others to perform and contribute to the organization by providing ongoing feedback and by providing opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods. Supports and challenges personal growth and career goal setting.
• Collaborates with clinical leadership team to provide leadership to the clinical outcomes/compliance, education, and reimbursement teams to assure that outcomes of the TQM system are implemented to reduce care variation, improve clinical competence and practice, drive staff education and training needs, ensure regulatory compliance, and support organizational initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree required in health science, healthcare leadership, or business management.
• Graduate of an accredited paramedic school or accredited school of nursing.
• Obtain and maintain current National Registry Paramedic Certification and be licensed/certified as a Paramedic or Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
• 10 years’ experience as a Paramedic or Registered Nurse in the critical care transport setting.
• 5 years’ experience in a clinical leadership role.
• Must obtain BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and NRP certification within 6 months of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
• Advanced trauma course (one of the following) within 6 months of hire
o ATLS
o ATLS Audit
o TPATC
o ATCN with advanced pathophysiology and skills lab
o TNCC with advanced pathophysiology and skills lab
• FP-C or CCP-C or CFRN is required within 2 years of employment.
• C-NPT certification within 2 years of employment.
• Completion of NIMS 100 ,200, 700, and 800 within one year of hire is required.
• Completion of the CMTE program within 3 years of hire is required.
• Complete of Just Culture training.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Regular and reliable attendance.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT (Including Physical Demands)
 
• Inside, office environment with frequent visits to bases, aircraft, and operational sites.
• Exposure to loud noises, vibration, temperature changes, as well as infectious diseases, agents, toxic chemicals and high-stress situations, including trauma cases and medical emergencies.
• Frequent interaction with clinical staff, logistics teams, and regulatory authorities.
• Ability to travel frequently by air, ground, or helicopter to multiple locations.
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during inspections or operational oversight.
• Ability to work in areas requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Standard office hours with flexibility needed to support operations outside or normal business hours.
• Ability to remain calm in a high-stress environment.
• Requires excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. independently and more with assistance.
