Your day-to-day
Responsible for setting and operating Citizen sliding head and grinding machines, with a focus on maximizing safety, quality, and output efficiency. Performs first-off inspections, maintains strict in-process quality control, and ensures accurate production data documentation.
1. Ensure that any health and safety guidelines are followed in accordance with the EHS organisational arrangements roles and responsibilities, including maintaining (and improving were possible) 5S standards and ensuring the correct PPE is worn.
2. Following works orders (routing) instructions.
3. Interpret technical drawings
4. Selection of and loading CNC programs
5. General tidiness and good housekeeping
6. Undertaking full machine setups, including selecting and installing cutting tools, work holding (chucks, fixtures, jaws), and setting datums using probing or dial indicators.
7. Complete works orders in accordance with Kanban system ensuring any issues (e.g. material availability, quality issues, etc.) are reported immediately to line manager.
8. Undertaking in cycle deburring.
9. Supervising machines during operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusting offsets or tool speeds to optimise performance recording output and scrap accurately.
11. Performing first-off component approvals and continuous in-process inspections using precision tools like micrometers, calipers and verniers to ensure parts meet tight tolerances
12. Ensuring tooling sheets and programs are kept up to date.
13. Able to identify alternative tooling solutions and raise ideas with cell leader.
14. Involvement in the High Performing Team (HPT).
15. Ensuring that the appropriate TPM is undertaken. – Routine maintenance
Who we are looking for
- General PC skills.
Experience in setting and operating multi-axis CNC machines, with a specific focus on sliding
head lathes and CNC Grinders.
Ability to read, interpret, and edit G-code (ideally Fanuc) to make necessary offset and program
adjustments
- Flexible to support other departments as required.
Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, shadow graphs) to
inspect parts against tight tolerances
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- The ability to logically diagnose production issues
- Responding effectively to changes in the production schedule or switching between machine types (lathes to grinders) with minimal disruption
