We are looking for you to join our team as a Systems Engineering Manager 2 (Front-Line Manager), 100 on-site at our Bethpage location, supporting MLSS programs for AMC Electromagnetic Maneuver Warfare. This position is a dual role encompassing both functional management and technical performance and will be responsible for the supervision of a Systems Engineering team.

What You’ll get to Do:

As an integral part of our Engineering & Sciences leadership team you will provide both engineering functional leadership and technical project execution leadership while overseeing approximately 10-15 engineers. Individuals in this team work across several MLSS programs with operations in Bethpage, NY. In this Systems Engineering Manager 2 role, you will also be expected to perform productive (direct charge) work on programs in addition to functional management duties. It is anticipated that given the size of this team, the candidate will spend ~80 of their time on programs in a technical/leadership role, and ~20 of their time in the functional role. This leader must be able to create a culture of well-being, inclusion and engagement that attracts, retains, and enables a high performing workforce.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead team of systems engineers performing direct work on multiple programs based on goals, objectives, and company policies.
  • Provide engineering staffing to programs.
  • Ensure adherence to established engineering processes.
  • Manage workload forecasting, hire/develop new engineering talent.
  • Prepare, manage, and conduct Quarterly Connections.
  • Support compensation planning.
  • Support and lead engineering organization efforts aimed towards skill and career development; continuous improvement; and growth.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external customers, homerooms and sectors.
  • Ensure training to staff on Engineering Tools required to support their programs.

This position is contingent upon having a current Active DoD Secret Clearance prior to starting.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with 8 years of experience, a Masters degree with 6 years of experience, or a PhD with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or other related technical fields.
  • U.S Citizenship is required.
  • A current / active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Exceptional leadership skills in order to coordinate collaboration across engineering teams, with at least 1 year of experience with people management or IPT leadership.
  • 1 year of experience within the systems engineering discipline in either the defense or aerospace industries.
  • 1 year of experience with Radar or EW technology background with sensors development and implementation.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership in a distributed team environment.
  • Prior experience in engineering functional management.
  • Demonstrated exemplary professionalism and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build diverse/inclusive teams with engaged team members.
  • Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills, and excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward).
  • Previous experience leading a team of 5-12 employees with a record of on-time performance.
  • Time management and organizational skills to prioritize concurrent program and functional responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of hiring, staffing, engineering metrics, training resources, processes, and tools.
  • High proficiency in technical problem solving to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring, as well as experience in systems engineering and support across multiple program phases.

Primary Level Salary Range: $156,500.00 - $234,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
